* Dog Fouling
Due to the actions of the few irresponsible dog owners who don't clear up after their dog, the Parish Council has felt it necessary to request that all dogs are kept on a lead when they are on the football pitches and the surrounded mown area (from north of the concrete path from Green View to Bramley Road) for a trail period . The trial period will run from 1 November for 3 months, and it will be reviewed at the January PC meeting. It is hoped that if dogs are on a lead, their owners will be more aware of their dogs are up to.
The Parish Council really does not want to impose a complete dog ban on this area or resort to fencing the football pitches off completely but dog poo on the football pitches where children play football cannot be tolerated any longer.
The Parish Council has a duty of care to maintain safe use of the Village Green (it is not a "Common", so our byelaws apply), and our insurers have advised that the Parish Council could be liable for considerable damages that could be claimed should someone's health be affected. Old Basing parish prohibits all dogs on its recreation grounds for that reason.
Over many years, previous administrations have implored dog owners to "clean up their act". Temporary signs will be erected around the trial area to educate users, especially those from outside the parish that may not have read the Loddon Link.
